Mian Plaza of Camarillo

Location: Camarillo, CA

This 14-acre site is comprised of two separate parcels and a regional stormwater open drainage channel running diagonally between the parcels. As a condition of the sale of the parcels that were owned by the City of Camarillo, the developer was required to underground the drainage channel, but was granted the use of the land above the channel for parking and landscaping. The project includes a full-service Embassy Suites hotel, a regional conference center, a Home2 Suites hotel, and four separate retail-restaurant buildings. One of the site planning challenges was to design a cohesive plan without the appearance of a gap between the buildings where the drainage channel was undergrounded. Adding to the challenge were numerous utility easements and building height restrictions due to the close proximity to the municipal airport. A continuous  pedestrian promenade connects all the buildings and is accented by plazas, courtyards, and fountains.
